American Journey at the Orlando Museum of Art<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a striking assemblage of pieces dating from the 18th\ncentury to the present day, American Journey provides the visitor with a look\nat how artists reflected social, cultural, and political movements and events\nin the U.S. It also tracks how American art itself evolved over time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the Orlando Museum of Art notes in its overview of the\nexhibition, \u201cAmerican art has expressed the ideals, aspirations, and sometimes\nchallenges of the nation throughout its history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works on display also suggest the diversity of American\nartists, including those representing more traditionally marginalized voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Though the sweep of time is part of American Journey\u2019s\npower, the exhibition is organized not chronologically but instead thematically.\nIt delves into different aspects of American culture and identity through\ngalleries such as \u201cThe People,\u201d \u201cThe Farm,\u201d \u201cThe City,\u201d \u201cThe Family,\u201d \u201cThe\nWest,\u201d and \u201cThe Sea.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Orlando Museum of Art: A Cultural Treasure of Central\nFlorida<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those\nacquisitions include not only works of American artists over the past couple of\ncenturies but also a noteworthy share of ancient indigenous artwork, from the\nAmerican Southwest to the Peruvian Andes. This Art of the Ancient Americas\ninventory serves as the most significant of its kind in the Southeast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here you\u2019ll also find an excellent collection of African Art\nas well as a Contemporary Art Collection\u2014featuring such luminaries as Robert\nRauschenberg and Jennifer Bartlett\u2014and a Contemporary American Graphics\nCollection, from Warhol and Johns onward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those permanent galleries come complemented by the numerous\ntemporary exhibitions the museum presents each year, as well as a rich roster\nof art programs and events for all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Orlando Museum of Art is open from 10 AM to 4 PM Tuesday\nthrough Friday and from noon to 4 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The institution is\na member of the American Alliance of Museums and also an official Blue Star\nMuseum, which offers free admission to active-duty military members and their\nfamilies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
